Hosea 4

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

1 Hear the word of the LORD, you children of Israel, for the LORD has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land: "There is no truth, mercy, love, or knowledge of God in the land.

2 There is only swearing, lying, killing, stealing, and committing adultery; they break all restraint, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.

3 Therefore the land will mourn, and everyone who dwells in it will languish [pine away], along with the beasts of the field and the birds of heaven; yes, the fishes of the sea will also die.

4 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another, for my contention is with the priest.

5 Therefore you [priests] shall fall in the daytime, and the [false] prophet also shall fall with you in the night; and I will destroy your mother [Israel].

6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.1 Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you so that you shall not be a priest to me. Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children.

7 The more they [the priests] increased, the more they sinned against me; therefore I will change their glory into shame.

8 They feed on the sin of my people and set their heart on their iniquity.

9 And it shall be: like people, like priest. And I will punish them both for their ways and repay them for their deeds.

10 For they shall eat and not have enough; they shall commit whoredom but not produce increase because they deserted the LORD for their whoredom.

11 Whoredom to old wine and new, taking away the heart.

12 My people ask counsel at their wooden idols, and their wooden staff answers them. For the spirit of whoredom has caused them to stray, and they have gone whoring from subjection to their God.

13 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and they burn incense upon the hills and under oaks, poplars, and elms because their shade is good. Therefore your daughters commit whoredom, and your brides commit adultery.

14 I will not punish your daughters, when they commit whoredom, nor your brides, when they commit adultery, for men themselves go apart with whores, and they sacrifice with shrine harlots. Therefore the people without understanding will fall.

15 Though you, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah become guilty; do not come to Gilgal nor go up to Bethaven. And do not swear, 'As the LORD lives.'

16 For Israel is stubborn like a stubborn heifer. How then will the LORD feed them like a lamb in a large pasture?

17 Ephraim is joined to idols; leave him alone!

18 Even when their drink is gone, they continue their whoredom continually; their rulers love shamefulness.

19 The wind has bound her up in its wings, and they shall be put to shame because of their sacrifices.

1 says the Lord: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge because you have rejected knowledge, Hos 4:6.
Unless a man goes to wait silently on the Lord, he will never obtain knowledge of the truth to then become free.
But the Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit and whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, John 14:26.
But you have to listen silently. You cannot pray with words, talk, or read the Bible, and hear. You must be quiet to hear.
The Comforter .. I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict and convince the world of sin, and about righteousness, and judgment. John 16:7-8.
A man cannot see the depth of sin in his heart until the Spirit shows it to him.
The beginning of truth is to learn from the spirit about the sin in yourself, and then to learn what is righteousness.
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he shall not speak of himself, but he shall only speak what he hears; and he will show you things to come. John 16:13
When you shall know the truth, truth shall make you free; and if the Son makes you free, you are truly free. John 8:31-32,36
But the anointing that you have received from him abides in you, and you do not need any man to teach you;
but as the same anointing teaches you all things, and is truth, and is no lie
and even as it has taught you, abide in him. 1 John 2:27.

And eventually: you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 1 John 2:20
