|Hosea 7 |
"When I would have healed Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim and the wickedness of Samaria was exposed; how they practice falsehood, and the thief breaks in and a troop of robbers spoil outside.
They do not consider in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness. Now their own deeds have assailed them on all sides; they are before my face.
They delight the king with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.
They are all adulterers; burning like an oven heated by a baker who ceases from stirring the fire after he has kneaded the dough until it is leavened.
On the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; and he stretched out his hand with scoffers.
For they have made their heart like an oven, while they lie in wait. Their anger sleeps all the night; in the morning it burns like a flaming fire.
They are all hot like an oven and have devoured their judges; all their kings have fallen; there is none among them who call to me.
Ephraim has mixed himself among the nations; Ephraim is a cake not turned over.
Strangers have devoured his strength, and he does not know; yes, gray hairs are sprinkled on him, yet he does not know it.
And the pride of Israel testifies against him to his face. And they do not return to the LORD their God nor seek him in spite of all this.
Ephraim is like a silly dove without heart or sense; they call to Egypt; they go to Assyria.
When they go, I will spread my net over them; I will bring them down like the birds of the heavens. I will chastise them according to what their congregation has heard.
Woe to them, for they have fled from me! Destruction to them, because they have transgressed against me! Though I would redeem them, yet they have spoken lies against me.
And they have not cried to me with their heart, but they wail upon their beds; they assemble themselves for grain and wine, and they rebel against me.
Though I have bound and strengthened their arms, yet they imagine mischief against me.
They return, but not to the most High. They are like a deceitful bow; their princes shall fall by the sword for the insolence and rage of their tongue. This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt."
