Isaiah 28:3,5-6,9-18

 3 The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, will be trodden under foot;

 5 In that day the LORD of hosts will be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, to the residue of his people,

 6 And for a spirit of judgment to him who sits in judgment, and for strength to those who turn the battle at the gate.

 9 "Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand doctrine? Those who are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

 10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little."

 11 For with stammering lips and another tongue he will speak to this people,

 12 To whom he said, "This is the rest with which you cause the weary to rest, and this is the refreshing; yet they would not hear."

 13 But the word of the LORD was to them, "precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken."

 14 Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scornful men who rule this people who are in Jerusalem.

 15 "Because you have said, 'We have made a covenant with death, and we are in agreement with hell; when the overflowing scourge passes through, it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and have hidden ourselves under falsehood.'1 [It is a lie that anyone except the pure can go to heaven; only those freed from sin, only those cleansed by God, only those purified by God, only those perfected by God, only those sanctified by God, only those redeemed from all sin, only those in union with God, only those go to heaven.]

 16 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, 'Behold, I lay in Zion a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation; and whoever believes on him will not be ashamed.

 17 I will lay judgment to the line, and righteousness to the plummet; and the hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters will overflow the hiding place.

 18 And your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with hell will not stand; when the overflowing scourge passes through, then you will be trodden down by it.2 [Only the power of God can change you to escape Hell after death, and the power of God is only accessed by sitting in humble silence to wait on God as you listen and watch for his spoken words that impart the life of God to you as they are engrafted into your heart. Only those who heed and obey what the Lord commands them to do receive salvation. Heb 5:9]

2 The Lord's reply to the lies is: your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with hell will not stand; when the overflowing scourge passes through, then you will be trodden down by it.
