|Isaiah 28 |
1 Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which is on the head of the fat valleys of those who are overcome with wine!
2 Behold, the Lord has a mighty and strong one [Assyria], who is like tempest of hail and a destroying storm, like a flood of mighty waters overflowing, he will cast them down to the earth with the hand.
3 The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, will be trodden under foot;
4 And the glorious beauty [of Ephraim], which is on the head of the fat valley, will be a fading flower, and like the first fruit before the summer, which, when anyone sees it, he eats it up while it is still in his hand.
5 In that day the LORD of hosts will be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, to the residue of his people,
6 And for a spirit of judgment to him who sits in judgment, and for strength to those who turn the battle at the gate.
7 But they have erred from wine, and have gone astray through strong drink; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up by wine, they have gone astray through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
8 For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place that is clean.
9 "Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand doctrine? Those who are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little."
11 For with stammering lips and another tongue he will speak to this people,
13 But the word of the LORD was to them, "precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken."
14 Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scornful men who rule this people who are in Jerusalem.
15 "Because you have said, 'We have made a covenant with death, and we are in agreement with hell; when the overflowing scourge passes through, it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and have hidden ourselves under falsehood.'1 [From the Word of the Lord within: "Do you agree with any who in their arrogance have stated that God excuses evil in believers? It's not fair, but they don't care." It is a lie that impure, imperfect, unholy believers in Jesus can go to heaven; only those freed from sin, only those cleansed by God, only those purified by God, only those perfected by God, only those sanctified by God, only those redeemed from all sin, only those in union with God — only those go to heaven.]
17 I will lay judgment to the line, and righteousness to the plummet; and the hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters will overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with hell will not stand; when the overflowing scourge passes through, then you will be trodden down by it.2 [From the Word of the Lord within: "Your covenant with death will be removed." Only the power of God can change you to escape Hell after death, and the power of God is only accessed by sitting in humble silence to wait on God as you listen and watch for his spoken words that impart the life of God to you as they are engrafted into your heart. Only those who heed and obey what the Lord commands them to do receive salvation. Heb 5:9]
19 As often as it goes through it will take you; for morning by morning it will pass over, by day and by night; and it will be a terror to only understand the report.'
20 For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself out on; and the covering narrower than he can wrap himself in.
21 For the LORD will rise up as in mount Perazim, he will be angry as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.
22 Now therefore do not be mockers, lest your bonds be made strong; for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts of a destruction that is determined upon the whole earth.3
23 Give ear and hear my voice; listen and hear my words.4
24 Does the plowman keep plowing all day before he sows? Does he keep turning the soil and breaking the clods of his ground?
25 When he has leveled its surface, does he not sow the dill, and scatter the cumin and the wheat, and the appointed barley and the spelt in their place?
26 For his God instructs him correctly, and teaches him.
27 For dill is not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cartwheel rolled over the cumin; but dill is beaten out with a staff, and the cumin with a rod.
28 Bread grain is ground; because he will not thresh it forever, nor break it with the wheel of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen.
29 This also comes from the LORD of hosts, who is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.

1 We have made a covenant with death, and we are in agreement with hell; when the overflowing scourge passes through, it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and have hidden ourselves under falsehood. What a perfect description of Christendom today; despite their continuing to sin until they die, they expect to escape Hell and enter heaven, where nothing but the spotless and pure are allowed.
2 The Lord's reply to the lies is: your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with hell will not stand; when the overflowing scourge passes through, then you will be trodden down by it. From the Word of the Lord within: "Your covenant with death will be removed."
3 I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts of a destruction that is determined upon the whole earth. This is what is discussed in the footnotes of Chapter 24 and 26 of Isaiah.
4 Give ear and hear my voice; listen and hear my words. Listen to the voice of the Lord. Hear the Word within your heart. Hear and obey. Hear, obey, and live. Fail to listen, and be destroyed.
