|Jeremiah 51:7 |
7 Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, that made all the earth drunken. The nations have drunk of her wine, and therefore the nations are mad.2
2 As the Lord has planned it, the physical events of the Old Testament are mirrored with the events of the New Testament. Compare Jer 51:7: Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, that made all the earth drunken. The nations have drunk of her wine, and therefore the nations are mad, with these verses in Revelation's prophecy:
And there followed another angel, saying, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication." Rev 14:8
For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed adultery with her,1 and the merchants of the earth are grown rich through the abundance of her delicacies." Rev 18:3
What is the wine they have drunk? The wine of belief that they can live their selfish lives as they please with no disapproval by God; the wine of believing that Jesus excuses their past, present, and future sins — which amounts to a license for immorality and is a pernicious lie. For Jesus said: If you sin, you are a slave to sin. John 8:34. Today's 'Christians' have no fear of God; they think Jesus excuses all sin. They sin with no remorse or fear of consequences. They think they can ignore all of Jesus' teachings, commands, and warnings, expecting him to defend them in judgment — but he will not be their excuse; instead they will hear him say: ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Mat 7:21-23. Jesus continues to warn us, saying: Sin no more! And Repent or perish! [to lose you soul ].
