Job 12

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

1 Then Job answered and said,

2 "No doubt, but you are the [wise of all] people, and wisdom shall pass away with your death.

3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Yes, who does not know such things as these?

4 I am like one mocked by his friends; I, who call upon God, and he answers him; the just upright man is laughed to scorn.

5  He who is ready to slip with his feet is like a lamp despised in the thoughts of him who is at ease.

6 The tents of robbers prosper, and those who provoke God are secure; into whose hand God allows abundance.

7 But now ask the beasts, and they shall teach you; and the birds of the air, and they shall tell you.

8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you; and the fishes of the sea shall declare to you.

9 Who among all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?

10 In his hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

11 Does not the ear judge and test words, just as the mouth tastes its food?

12 With the aged man is wisdom; and in length of days is understanding.

13 With Him [God] are wisdom and strength, He has counsel and understanding.

14 Behold, He breaks down, and it cannot be built again. He shuts up a man, and there can be no opening.

15 Behold, He withholds the waters, and they dry up; also He sends them out, and they overwhelm the earth.

16 With Him is strength and wisdom; the deceived and the deceiver are His.

17 He leads counselors away stripped of their possessions, and makes the judges fools.

18 He loosens the bonds ordered by kings, and girds their loins with a girdle.

19 He leads princes away stripped of their possessions, and overthrows the mighty.

20 He removes the speech of the trusty, and takes away the understanding of the aged.

21 He pours contempt upon princes, and weakens the strength of the mighty.

22 He discovers deep things out of darkness, and brings deep darkness out to light.1

23 He increases the nations and destroys them; he enlarges the nations, and confines them again.

24 He takes away the understanding of the leaders of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.

25 They grope in the dark without light,2 and he makes them wander and stagger like a drunken man."

1 He discovers deep things out of darkness, and brings deep darkness out to light. See the wisdom of these men in the below scriptures:

You have set our sins before you, what we have hidden, by the light of your face. Psalms 90:8.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest [revealed] by the light. For whatever reveals is light. Eph 5:13.
Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and expose the motives of your hearts; then each will receive praise from God. 1 Cor 4:5.
Because what may be known of God is revealed in them; for God has shown it to them. Rom 1:19.

For the word of God is quick [living], and powerful [active], and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner and judge of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
There is not any created being that is not seen [continually] by God, but all things are exposed and open to the eyes of him [God] to whom we must give an account. Heb 4:12-13

2 He takes away the understanding of the leaders of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. They grope in the dark without light, and he makes them to wander and stagger like a drunken man. There is a spiritual darkness that men are born into. We have the seed of divine Light within us, as all men who are born into the world; but until we seek God and receive his release from the power of sin and darkness, we go through life blind to the way of God. We are like men stumbling and groping for our way in the dark because we do not have the light of God to guide us. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overcome upon you because he who walks in darkness does not know where he goes. John 12:35.

But if we walk in the Light as he is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another (in the Spirit, not the flesh) and the blood of Jesus his son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7....And truly our fellowship is the Father and his son Jesus Christ, 1 John 1:3....Your word [heard from within] is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psa 119:105.

So these heathen men, Job included, were very familiar with a great number of teachings from the Lord; yet not a single scripture had been written in this time. They had been taught by the Light of the Word, Christ, in every man's heart.
