Job 24

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

1 [Job still speaking] "Why, since the future times are not hidden from the Almighty, are those who know him not able to see the planned events and judgments to come?

2 Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and its feed.

3 They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox as a pledge.

4 They push the needy out of the way; the poor of the earth hide themselves together.

5 Behold, like wild asses in the desert, the poor go out to their work to seek their food from the wasteland that yields food for them and for their children.

6 They gather left-over grain and fodder from the fields, and they glean the vineyards of the wicked.

7 They spend the night naked, without clothing, and they have no covering in the cold.

8 They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and huddle under rocks for lack of a shelter.

9 The fatherless child is plucked from the breast and taken as a pledge from the poor for a debt.

10 They are caused to go naked without clothing, and though hungry, they carry sheafs of grain [as servants] but are not allowed to eat.

11 They [as servants] make oil within the walls, and tread the winepresses, but suffer thirst.

12 Men groan out of the city, and the soul of the wounded cries out; yet God seems to disregard their wrongs suffered.

13 These are those who rebel against the light; who do not know its ways, nor abide in the paths of it.1

14 The murderer rises with the dawn and kills the poor and needy, and in the night he is like a thief.

15 The eye of the adulterer also waits for the twilight, saying, 'No eye shall see me;' and his face is concealed [by the night].

16 In the dark they break into houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime; they do not know the [spiritual] light.

17 For great [spiritual] darkness is the only dawning of [spiritual] light they know. They are friends with the terrors of deep [spiritual] darkness.2

18 They swiftly pass away on the waters. Their portion is cursed on the earth; their vineyard is not visited [for their spiritual vine is barren].

19 As drought and heat consume the snow waters, so does Sheol consume those who have sinned.

20 The womb shall forget him. The worm shall feed sweetly on him. He shall no longer be remembered, and his wickedness shall be broken like a tree [falls].

21 The evil preys on the barren, childless woman, and does no good to the widow.

22 But God draws the mighty with his power; He rises up, but no man is sure of life.

23 Though God allows them to be apparently secure [without being punished], and so they relax; yet God's eyes are upon their ways.

24 They are exalted for a little while, but then are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all others, and cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.

25 And if it is not so, who will make me a liar, and make my speech worth nothing?"

1 those who rebel against the light; who do not know its ways, nor abide in the paths of it. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:4-5 ...and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. John 3:19. Once again, here is a knowledge of the light that was rarely seen, except by the prophets of the Old Testament, the early Church of the New Testament, and the Early Quakers. This generation's knowledge of God surpasses all of Christendom today.

But if we walk in the Light as he is in the Light we have fellowship with one another (in the Spirit, not the flesh) and the blood of Jesus, His son, cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7....And truly our fellowship is with Christ and the Father, 1 John 1:4....Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psa 119:105. The Light, who is Christ, enlightens every man who comes into the world, John 1:1-4,9; and that we are to believe in the light to become children of the light and so walk in the light, not darkness as we have been, John 12:36,46.

2 they do not know the [spiritual] light. For great [spiritual] darkness is the only dawning of [spiritual] light they know. They are friends with the terrors of deep [spiritual] darkness. More understanding of darkness, being the realm of Hell, being the source of terrors.
