|John 12:35-36 |
35 So Jesus said to them, "For a little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overcome you, because he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. [When Adam fell, humans lost the life and light of God; we lost his guiding light, and so we all walk in darkness, which is to be spiritually blind. Jesus came so that "He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life." John 8:12. We have to be restored to the life of God so that we spiritually see where we are going.]
36 While you have light, believe in [depend on, trust and obey] the light, that you may become the children of light." Jesus spoke these things and then departed to hide himself from them.4 [For "God is light." 1 John 1:5, and "the Father of Lights." James 1:17. The Light (Christ) is given to every man who comes into the world, John 1:9, so that through the Light, all men might believe, John 1:7; and by abiding in the Light and obeying the Light, receive salvation to become a child of the light, a son of God. To believe in the light is to believe what it shows you by revelation as true and then to keep and obey its teachings; this is to believe in Jesus because Jesus is that light. If you do not keep or obey the words you hear Christ speak to you, those words will be your judge when you die. John 12:47-48.]
4 While you have light, believe in [depend on, trust and obey] the light, that you may become the children of light. The Light (Christ) is given to every man who comes into the world, John 1:9, so that through the Light, all men might believe, John 1:7; and by abiding in the Light and obeying the Light, man receives salvation to become a child of the light, a son of God. For God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5. So man is given a small measure of light that he might believe what it shows him, what it reproves him, what it convicts him — while a man is alive on the earth. If a man is totally obedient to the light, he will become a child of God, a child of the light. But if he hates the light because it reproves his selfish lifestyle and behavior, then he dies in his sins; and when a man dies still sinning, Christ the light steps out of him, leaving the man in total darkness, which is Hell. Then the measure of light that the man had is given to another who improved his talent while alive. The result: everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power 2 Thes 1:9; man is cut off from the life, power, and glory of God, dwelling in total darkness.
So O man, believe (accept the reproofs and convictions) in the light, while you have the light because to lose the light is to be cast into outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. In a man's life, the light reasons with us anonymously to depart from evil and do good. In our selfishness, we ignore it; but when we die, we will see every attempt played back in our sight, and we will acknowledge that we willfully chose to ignore the counsel of God.
Jesus spoke these things and then departed to hide himself from them. He hid himself from them in an allegory as to how he will hide himself from us if we die still sinning, to show us what it will be like when we do not have the light, which we failed to believe in.
Then they shall call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me early and diligently, but they shall not find me.
Because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord.
They would have none of my counsel; they despised all my reproof.
Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be satiated with their own desires.
For the turning away [from my counsel ] of the ignorant shall slay them, and the careless ease of fools will destroy them. Pro 1:28-32
From the Word of the Lord within: "When the light leaves, you will panic; all the ungodly will panic." The vast majority of people are not even aware that they have the light within them, and they have no appreciation as to how much a comfort the light is to them in their life; but when they lose it, they will realize what an essential part of their well-being that the light was in their life.
From the Word of the Lord within: "Heed the light that you may be children of the light."
Note the infinite difference between: believing that there is a light, vs. heeding, (to notice, believe, and obey), what the light shows you.
Likewise there is an infinite difference between believing that Jesus is the Son of God vs. believing and obeying what you hear Jesus, the Son of God, speak or show to you. From the Word of the Lord within: "You are a son when Jesus appears in your heart to guide you."
And so we can see how a subtle change in interpretation created the infinite gulf of apostasy between the broad way of Christendom vs. the narrow way of true Christianity. But men rushed to embrace this doctrinal error, ignoring the many scriptures requiring them to take up the cross, forsaking all, losing your life, repent, be cleansed, be pure as He is pure, be holy as He is holy, be perfect as the Father is perfect, be righteous as Jesus was righteous, be merciful as He is merciful, walk in the same way as He walked, be in this present world as He was, and to be delivered from all sin; for they loved their life and did not want give up their selfish, evil ways of the flesh. Their itching ears were ready to believe the broad, easy way of doing nothing.
