 ¹ Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early while it was still dark, and saw the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

 ² So she ran and came to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken away the LORD out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him."

 ³ Then Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.

 ⁴ They both ran, and the other disciple outran Peter, arriving at the tomb first.

 ⁵ And he stooped down, looked in, and saw the linen burial clothing lying there; but he did not go in.

 ⁶ Then Simon Peter arrived after him, and he went into the tomb and saw the linen clothing lying there,

 ⁷ Along with the cloth that had been placed around his head, which was not lying with the linen clothes, but was wrapped up in a place by itself.

 ⁸ Then that other disciple, who first arrived at the tomb, also went in; and he saw and believed.

 ⁹ For as of yet they did not know the scripture, which said "he must rise again from the dead."

 ¹⁰ Then the disciples left to go again to their own homes.

 ¹¹ But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping; and as she wept, she stooped down and looked into the tomb.

 ¹² And she saw two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been placed,

 ¹³ And they said to her, "Woman, why do you weep?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my LORD, and I do not know where they have laid him."

 ¹⁴ And when she had finished saying that, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not recognize him to be Jesus.

 ¹⁵ Then Jesus said to her, "Woman, why do you weep? Whom do you seek?" And she, supposing him to be the gardener, said to him, "Sir, if you have taken him from here, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away."

 ¹⁶ Jesus said to her, "Mary." Then she turned back around, and said to him, "Rabbi;" which is to say, Master.

 ¹⁷ Jesus then said to her, "Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, 'I ascend to my Father and your Father, and to my God and your God.'" [Note! The God of Jesus is the Father. Jesus did not claim to be God; Jesus said he was the Son of God, Luke 22:70, and the Father was greater than Him, John 14:28.]

 ¹⁸ Then Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things to her.

 ¹⁹ And that same day, in the evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be to you."

 ²⁰ And when he had so spoken, he showed them his hands and his side. And when the disciples saw the LORD, they were filled with joy and happiness.

 ²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, "Peace be to you; as my Father has sent me, even so send I you."

 ²² And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.

 ²³ Whoever's sins you forgive, they are forgiven them; and whoever's sins you retain, they are retained."

 ²⁴ But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus had come.

 ²⁵ Therefore the other disciples said to him, "We have seen the LORD." But he said to them, "Unless I see the marks of the nails in his hands, and put my finger into the wounds of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe."

 ²⁶ Now after eight days his disciples were again meeting behind closed doors, and Thomas was with them. And although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and said, "Peace be to you."

 ²⁷ Then he said to Thomas, "Reach here with your finger, and see my hands; and reach here your hand and thrust it into my side; and do not be faithless, but believe."

 ²⁸ And Thomas answered and said to him, "My LORD and my God."

 ²⁹ Then Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen, and yet have believed."

 ³⁰ And truly, Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book;

 ³¹ But these are written so that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that by believing, you might have life through his name.
