John 6:57-58 Display Chapter and Footnotes   57 As the living Father has sent me, and I live by the Father; so he who feeds on me, shall live by me. 58 This is that Bread that came down from heaven; but not as your fathers ate manna, and are dead, for he who eats of this Bread shall live forever."5 [I am the Living Bread that comes down from heaven. John 6:51. From the Word of the Lord within: "I am the light of the world [every man]; whoever continues to feed on me shall have the light of life. I am the light of the world [every man]. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life. John 8:12" To feed is to follow, which is to listen/hear and obey what you are commanded to do.] |
5 How do you eat this Bread from heaven? You hear his words, which are spirit and life; you keep them, practicing them and obeying them. It is the Spirit Who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life-giving. John 6:63. The ritual of "communion" has been substituted for the real communion — a dialogue between you and Christ; a dialogue of words from Him that you retain — you eat — so that his word abides in you, and then controls you. More words, more control. The word, who is Christ, is being formed in your flesh.
(We are supposed to remember Christ every time we eat and drink, until he returns to appear in our heart, not grape juice and wafers in a sect's service.)
And remember, Christ told us to: Do not labor for food that perishes, but [instead labor] for the food that endures to everlasting life.
Whoever comes to me, and listens to my words, and does [practices, obeys] them, I will show you what he is like.
He is like a man who built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation securely built on a rock;
and when the flood arose, the torrent beat violently upon that house, but could not shake it because it was founded upon a rock.
But the person who hears and does not put my words into practice is like a man who built a house upon the earth without a foundation;
against which the torrent struck violently, and immediately it collapsed; and the ruin of that house was great. Luke 6:47-48
