|Luke 5 |
1 Now it came to pass, that as the people pressed about him to hear the word of God,1 he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
2 And saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen were out of them and were washing their nets.
3 Then he entered into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
4 Now when he had stopped speaking, he said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch."
5 And Simon answering said to him, "Master, we have toiled all the night, and have caught nothing; nevertheless at your word I will let down the net."
6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.
7 So they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.
8 And when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!"
9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken;
10 And so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. But Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will catch men!"
11 So when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.
12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, that there was a man who was full of leprosy, and when he saw Jesus he fell on his face and begged him, saying, "Lord, if you will, you can make me clean."
13 And he put out his hand and touched him, saying, "I will, be clean." And immediately the leprosy left him.
14 And he charged him to tell no one, "But go and show yourself to the priest, and offer the sacrifice Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them."
15 But the fame of him spread all the more, and great multitudes came to hear him and to be healed by him of their infirmities.
16 So he often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.
17 Now it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, and Judea, and Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
18 Then behold, some men brought a man on a bed who was paralyzed, and they sought a means to bring him in and lay him before Jesus.
19 And when they could not find a way to bring him in because of the multitude, they went up on the housetop, and lowered him down through the tiles with his bed, into the middle of the crowd, in front of Jesus.
20 And when he saw their faith, he said to him, "Man, your sins are forgiven you."
21 Then the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?"
22 And when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them saying, "Why do you question in your hearts?
23 Which is easier to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you;' or to say, 'Rise up and walk'?
24 But so that you may know that the Son of man has power upon earth to forgive sins," (he said to the sick of the paralysis,) "I say to you, arise, take up your bed and go to your house."
25 And immediately he stood up before them, and picked up what he had been lying on and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
26 Then they were all amazed and glorified God; and they were filled with awe, saying, "We have seen remarkable things today."
27 Now after these things he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, "Follow me."
28 And he left everything, rose up, and followed him.
29 Then Levi made him a feast in his own house; and there was a great company of tax collectors and others who sat down with them.
30 But the scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?"
31 And Jesus answered them, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but those who are sick.
32 I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." [Today's so-called Christians think they are righteous because they "believe in Jesus" or have been water baptized; in so doing, Christianity has made a mockery of the Lord's highest priority command in the New Testament: "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness," Mat 6:33. When contemplating those who think they have the righteousness of Christ because they believe that Jesus is the son of God, the Word of the Lord within said: "They throw the word 'righteousness' around without any understanding of what it means. They are filthy dreamers." All are filthy because their hearts are defiled with all manner of sins they still commit with disregard to the Lord's many warnings and the Bible's very clear requirements, conditions, and exclusions of salvation; so they are dreaming that they are righteous. There is an imputed righteousness that comes with the measure of faith received with the fruit of the Spirit, which is rewarded to those who have crucified their selfish, evil spirit on the inward cross of self-denial, but not before. Believing in Jesus is not the faith that imputes righteousness; see Footnote 2 of Romans 3 for the detail of imputed righteousness.]
33 And they said to him, "Why do the disciples of John fast often and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but yours eat and drink?"
34 And he said to them, "Can you make the guests of the bridegroom fast, while the bridegroom is with them?
35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days."
36 Then he spoke a parable to them, "No one puts a piece of a new garment onto an old garment; otherwise, the new one will tear, and also the piece that was taken out of the new will not match the old.
37 And no man puts new wine into old bottles [or wineskins]; else the new wine will burst the bottles and be spilled and the bottles will be ruined.2
38 But new wine must be put into new bottles, and then both will be preserved.
39 No one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires the new wine, for he will say, 'The old wine is better.'"3

1 the people pressed about him to hear the word of God. Jesus spoke the word of God. He did not speak his own words. Below are Jesus' disclosures of how he spoke. Jesus said:
Of my own self, I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, John 5:30
For I do not speak from myself [not my own words], but the Father who sent me, himself commands me what I should say and what I should speak.
And I know that [to obey] his command is life everlasting. Therefore, whatever I speak is just as the Father tells me to speak. John 12:49-50
The Son is can do nothing of Himself [by his own will],
but only does what he sees the Father do. John 5:19
He who speaks from himself [speaking his own words] seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of the One who sent him, that man is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him. John 7:18
And Jesus said anyone who did not speak with words provided by God, was seeking his own glory:
He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of the One who sent him, that man is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him. John 7:18
But the preachers today have not been sent, and they speak from themselves, quoting the Bible from their carnal minds, giving their own opinions as to what it means; that is why there are 41,000 different sects in Christendom. They have not been taught by the Holy Spirit, so that they would speak only words given to them by the Spirit to speak at the time. The Apostles also spoke the Word of God with words supplied by the Spirit of God in their hearts:
Paul said: This is what we speak, not in words taught us by man's wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual truths with spiritual words. 1 Cor 2:13.
Peter said: If any man speaks, let him speak with God's words [oracles]; if any man ministers, let him do it with the ability that God gives. 1 Pet 4:11.
When someone preaches from their own mind, they are preaching from their carnal mind, which is enmity to God in the nature of death. Thus says the Lord God: The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I did not send them, neither have I commanded them, nor spoken to them. They prophesy to you a false vision and divination, worthless from the deceit of their heart. Jeremiah 14:14. (Prophesy is to preach; to instruct in religious doctrines; to interpret or explain Scripture or religious subjects; to exhort. 1 Cor 14:1-3).
2 And no man puts new wine into old bottles [or wineskins]; else the new wine will burst the bottles and be spilled and the bottles will be ruined. The bottle is a man's heart; the heart in the body is the temple of God. Unless a man's heart and body has had the evil removed through repentance on the inward cross of self-denial, the heart cannot contain the filling of the Spirit of God; the Spirit would be lost because the man's evil desires wars with the Spirit of God and would cause it to diminish. Further, a man who had not first been purified on the cross would perish in the presence of God for only the righteous can scarcely be saved as the Lord snatches them from the fire that every man must pass through; flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. God must give us a new heart, which can hold the new Spirit.
3 No one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires the new wine, for he will say, 'The old wine is better.' If a sinner did not first have the sins slowly purged out of his heart, while learning to hate all evil, even if that sinner were translated into heaven, he would not be happy because he could not pursue all his old addictions. If you die still sinning, you would be absolutely miserable in heaven; all your pleasures and desires, having not been crucified while on earth, are not available in heaven, and you would be miserable without them. You would be yearning for the old wine, which you think is better than the new wine because you have not been prepared, crucified, purified, (the new wineskin), and freed from lusts, anger, sexual desires, resentment, envy, greed, lying, jealousy, foolishness, revelry, drunkenness, pleasures, etc. Even your thoughts would be heard by everyone around you; you would be terrified and wanting to run to darkness where you hope your thoughts would not be heard by everyone. A man must crucify his lusts and affections on the inward cross of self-denial before he can enjoy fellowship in the heavens.
