Matthew 13:13-15

 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because by their seeing [natural seeing] they do not see [spiritually]; and hearing [naturally] they do not hear [spiritually], neither do they understand.

 14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which said, 'You will listen, but will not understand; you will look, but will not perceive.

 15 Make this peoples' heart callous, and their ears dull of hearing, and close their [spiritual] eyes; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and repent, and be healed.'1 [See Footnote 1 of Mark 4 for why Jesus speaks in parables to prevent certain people from hearing the meaning of his teachings and gospel.]
