Matthew 21:19-20

 19 And when he saw a fig tree on the way, he came to it and found nothing on it, except leaves, and said to it, "Let no fruit grow on you from this time forward." And the fig tree soon after withered away.

 20 And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, "How quickly has the fig tree withered away!"

 6 He also spoke this parable: "A certain man had a fig tree, planted in his vineyard, and he came to look for fruit on it, but found none.

 7 Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, 'Behold, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and found none. Cut it down. Why should it cumber [use up] the ground?'

 8 But answering him he said, 'Lord, leave it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it.

 9 And if it bears fruit, fine. But if not, then after that cut it down.'"2
