2 But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, although you are small among the clans of Judah; yet out of you shall one come forth to me who is to be ruler in Israel [Jesus], whose goings forth are from the days of eternity, from everlasting.
1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2 Saying, "Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east at its rising, and have come to worship him."
3 When Herod the king heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where the Christ was to be born.
5 And they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it was written by the prophet [Micah],

1 And it came to pass in those days, that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
2 (This taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3 So all went to be taxed, everyone into his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because Joseph was of the house and lineage of David,
5 To be taxed with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was great with child.
6 So it was, that while they were there, the days arrived for her to give birth to her child.
