Micah 1

Next Chapter

This is the word of the LORD that came to Micah, the Morasthite, in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

"Hear, all you people; listen, O earth and all who are in it, and let the Lord GOD be witness against you, the LORD from his holy temple.

For behold, the LORD comes forth out of his place and will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth.

The mountains will melt under him and the valleys will split like wax before the fire, and like waters that are poured down a steep place.

All this is for the transgression of Jacob and the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria's [idols]? And what are the high places of Judah? Are they not Jerusalem?

Therefore I will make Samaria a heap of ruins in the field, a place for planting vineyards; and I will pour her stones into the valley and lay bare her foundations.

And all her carved images shall be beaten to pieces, and all her pay as a harlot shall be burned with the fire; and I will lay waste all her idols for she gathered it from the pay of a harlot, and it shall be returned as the pay of a harlot again."

Therefore I [Micah] will wail and howl; I will go stripped and naked; I will make a wailing like the jackals and a mourning like the owls.

For her wound is incurable; it has come to Judah. It has come to the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem.

Do not declare it at Gath, do not weep at all; but roll yourself in the dust in the house of Aphrah.

Pass on your way in naked shamefulness, you inhabitant of Saphir. The inhabitants of Zaanan do not come out. The wailing of Bethezel takes away its support from you.

For the inhabitant of Maroth waited anxiously for relief, because evil came down from the LORD to the gate of Jerusalem.

O you inhabitant of Lachish, bind the chariot to the swift beast; you were the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion, for the transgressions of Israel were found in you.

Therefore you shall give parting presents to Moreshethgath; the town of Achzib shall be a deception to the kings of Israel.

I will bring a conqueror to you, O inhabitant of Mareshah; the glory of Israel shall come to Adullam.

Make yourself bald and cut off your hair for the children of your delight; make yourself as bald as the vulture, for your children shall be carried away from you into captivity."
