|Micah 3 |
1 And I said, "Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob and you rulers of the house of Israel! Should you not know justice?
2 You who hate good and love evil, who pluck the skin from my people and their flesh from their bones;
3 Who eat the flesh of my people and strip their skin off of them, who break their bones and chop them in pieces like meat for the pot, like flesh in the kettle.
4 Then they will cry to the LORD, but he will not hear them; he will even hide his face from them at that time because they have been evil in their deeds.
5 Thus says the LORD: Concerning the false prophets who make my people stray, when someone gives them something to eat they cry, 'Peace;' but when someone does not put food into their mouths, they prepare war against him.1
6 Therefore it shall be night to you, so that you shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark to you without divination. And the sun shall go down for the false prophets, and the day shall go dark for them.
7 Then the false prophets shall be ashamed and the diviners confounded; yes, they shall all cover their mouths for there is no answer from God."
8 But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.
9 Hear this, I pray you, you heads of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel, who abhor justice and pervert all equity,
10 Who build Zion with bloodshed and Jerusalem with iniquity.
11 Her leaders judge for a bribe and her priests teach for hire2 and her prophets divine for money; and yet they lean upon the LORD and say, "Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us."
12 Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be like the high places of the forest.

1 When someone gives them [the false prophets] something to eat they cry, 'Peace;' but when someone does not put food into their mouths, they prepare war against him. This occurred in England and America as the early Quakers refused to pay tithes, and masses of people left the Episcopal, Congregationalist Puritan, Presbyterian, and Baptist sects. The priests and ministers of these sects became enraged and were the ones who incited the civil authorities to imprison tens of thousands Quakers, kill over 1000, steal the property of tens of thousands, and even send them and some of their children to slavery.
Why? Because the Quakers took food out of their mouths, so just like this verse says: When someone gives them [the false prophets] something to eat they cry, 'Peace;' but when someone does not put food into their mouths, they prepare war against him.
There was so much envy over the spiritual success of the early Quakers, even the ministerial students of Oxford and Cambridge regularly persecuted the local Quaker meetings, committing barbaric atrocities on the persons of women and men in the meetings. Click to read.
2 Her priests teach for hire. And they say, "Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us." Therefore Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins. This is exactly the state of Christendom today. All the ministers and priests are paid a salary; they teach for hire. They are in the steps of those who were destroyed by the Lord. And those who support such covetous preachers will also suffer the condemnation of the Lord. If they are covetous, they are not true preachers of the Lord; they are ministers of Satan, transformed to look like ministers of righteousness; and they don't know they are Satan's ministers; they think they are Christ's, even though Christ never called them, never trained them, never perfected them, never authorized them, and never gifted them with the ministry.
Peter's said: Feed the flock of God that is among you, serving as an overseer, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre [money], but readily. 1 Peter 5:2
Jesus said: I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. John 10:11-13. Freely you have received, freely give. Matt 10:8
Paul said: For we are not like so many, who peddle the word of God [for profit]; but with sincerity, as being from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ. 2 Cor 2:17. What is my reward then? Truly, that when I preach the gospel, I may offer the gospel of Christ without charge. 1 Cor 9:18.
Preaching for a salary is the error of Balaam, which is spiritual adultery, loving wages and profit — both Peter and Jude had some very grave things to say about those who solicit donations or preach for a salary. Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children — for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness.
