|Micah 5 |
1 "Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops; a siege is laid against us. They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.
2 But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, although you are small among the clans of Judah; yet out of you shall one come forth to me who is to be ruler in Israel [Jesus], whose goings forth are from the days of eternity, from everlasting.
3 Therefore he shall give them [Israel] up, until the time when she who is in labor has brought forth; then the remnant of his brothers shall return to the children of Israel.
4 And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall dwell securely, for then he shall be great to the ends of the earth.
5 And this One shall be the peace. When the Assyrian comes into our land and treads in our palaces, then we will raise seven shepherds and eight leaders of men against him.
6 And they shall rule the land of Assyria with the sword and the land of Nimrod at its gates. Thus he shall deliver us from the Assyrian when he comes into our land, and when he treads within our borders.
7 And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people like dew from the LORD, like showers upon the grass, which does not wait for man nor for the sons of men.
8 Then the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among the flocks of sheep; which, if he goes through, treads down and tears in pieces, and none can deliver.
9 Your hand will be lifted up against your adversaries, and all your enemies shall be cut off.
10 And it shall come to pass in that day, says the LORD, that I will destroy your [the Gentiles'] horses out of your midst and will destroy your chariots.
11 And I will destroy the cities of your land and throw down all your strongholds.
12 And I will destroy witchcrafts, and you shall have no more fortune tellers.
13 I will also destroy your carved images and your standing images [idols] out of your midst, and you shall no longer worship the work of your hands.
14 And I will uproot your groves out of your midst and will destroy your cities.
15 I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen who would not hear or obey."1

1 I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen who would not hear or obey. Notice! Those who do not hear (the Voice of the Lord) and obey (the Voice of the Lord in their heart), will feel the vengeance of God in his anger and fury. And this applies to the ends of the earth: he [the ruler, Jesus, in his saints] shall be great to the ends of the earth. His saints, the remnant of Jacob, will be scattered throughout the earth's Gentiles, (many not even knowing they are of Jewish ancestry): the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people. And these saints will be the voice in the world against evil, not in violence, not in force, but in love and knowledge; the Lord himself will destroy those who will not hear or obey.
