|Nahum 2 |
"He who dashes in pieces has come up against your face. Keep the fortress manned, watch the way, strengthen your flanks, fortify your power mightily.
For the LORD has restored the excellence of Jacob to be like the excellence of Israel for destroyers have emptied them out and ruined their vine branches.
The shields of the mighty men are red; the valiant men are clad in scarlet. The chariots blaze with steel like torches on the day of his preparation, and the horses rush about like fir trees that are terribly shaken.
The chariots rage in the streets; they jostle against one another in the broad ways. They flash with steel like torches, they run like the lightning.
He remembers and summons his bravest men, yet they stumble in their march. They make haste to the wall, and the defenses are prepared.
The gates of the rivers are opened and the palace is dissolved.
It is decreed: Nineveh shall be led away captive, she shall be carried away; her maids are moaning like the voice of doves, beating upon their breasts.
Though Nineveh of old was like a pool of water, yet they are fleeing away. 'Halt, halt,' they cry; but no one looks back.
Take the spoil of silver; take the spoil of gold; for there is no end of all the treasure or all the precious wealth.
She is empty, and void, and waste! The hearts melt and the knees shake, pain is in the loins, and all their faces are pale.
Where is the dwelling place of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness and the lion's cub walked, and no one made them afraid?
The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs and killed for his lionesses; he filled his caves with prey and his dens with flesh.
Behold, I am against you, says the LORD of hosts, I will burn up your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions. And I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers shall no longer be heard."
