27 "How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

28 Say to them, 'As truly as I live, says the Lord, 'as you have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you.

29 Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness; all who were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward who have murmured against me.

30 Doubtless you shall not come into the land, concerning that I swore to make you dwell in it, except for Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, the son of Nun.

31 But as to your little ones, whom you said would be a prey —I will bring them into the land, and they shall know the land which you have despised.3

32 But as for you, your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness.

33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness for forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcasses are wasted in the wilderness.

34 After the number of the days that you scouted the land, even forty days, each day for a year, you shall bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you shall know my alienation.

35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it to all this evil congregation, who are gathered together against me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.'"

3 The Lord swears: As surely as I live... you shall not come into the promise land or into the inheritance of the rest; your carcasses will fall in the wilderness. You shall wander in the wilderness for forty years, but I will bring your children in after your deaths. This is what Hebrews 4:3 refers to:

"As I have sworn in my wrath, they will not enter into my rest;" But we who have believed do enter into rest. Heb 4:3

Note! They believed in God because they had seen his many miracles; but they didn't believe his promises: that with God's help they could conquer the mighty men they had seen.

Christians! You cannot just believe in God, you must believe his promises: the true hope, the hope that purifies. You must believe that God can conquer and destroy the works of the devil, the sin in you. You must believe the true gospel, which is the power of God; but not the gospel of the hypocrites, which is a form of godliness without the power. 2 Timothy 3:5. The gospel of the hypocrites accepts sin as unconquerable and presumes a salvation to come after death.
