Proverbs 6:4-11

Display Chapter and Footnotes

 4 Do not allow sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.1

 5 Deliver yourself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

 6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise;

 7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

 8 Provides her food in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.

 9 How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?

 10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep.

 11 So shall poverty come on you like a thief, and your want like an armed man.2

2 So shall poverty come on you like a thief. Plenty of sleep creates spiritual poverty. Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty; [spiritual poverty] Open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with bread. Pro 20:13. (Jesus is the Bread from Heaven, the Word of God, heard from within — this is a strong advisory to get as little sleep as possible.) Behold, I am going to come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake. Revelation 16:15. I remember You upon my bed and meditate on You in the night watches. Psalm 63:6.
