Psalms 16

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

1 Preserve me, O God, for I put my trust in you.

2 O my soul, you have said to the LORD, "You are my Lord; my goodness is nothing apart from you;"

3 As for the saints who are on the earth, "they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight."

4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied who run after another god; I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood, nor take up their names on my lips.

5 The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; you maintain my lot.

6 The boundary lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a good heritage.

7 I will bless the LORD, who has given me counsel; my heart also instructs me in the night.1

8 I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also shall rest in hope.

10 For you will not abandon my soul to hell, neither will you allow your Holy One to see corruption.

11 You will show me the path of life; in your presence is fullness of joy, at your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.2

1 My heart also instructs me in the night. This is how we are taught by God, to listen to him within our hearts, where the word of God dwells: the word is very near to you, in your mouth, and in your heart, so that you may obey it. Deu 30:14, Rom 10:8. So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God [from within your heart]. Rom 10:17.

2 in your presence is fullness of joy, at your right hand there are pleasures forevermore. THE PROMISE! Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love him; and Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my words [obey or practice my teachings]." John 14:23.
