Psalms 19

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the skies proclaim his handiwork.

Day after day they utter speech, and night after night they show knowledge.

They have no speech or language, no sound is heard from them.

Yet their sound has gone out through all the earth, and their utterances to the end of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,

Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; rejoicing like a strong man to run his race.

Its rising is from one end of the heavens, and makes its circuit to the other end of it; and there is nothing hidden from the heat of it.

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making the simple wise.

The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commands of the LORD are pure, enlightening the eyes.

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

They are more to be desired than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

Moreover your servant is warned by them; and there is great reward in keeping them.

Who can know all his errors [sins]? Cleanse me from secret and hidden [sins]. [The pain of a wound cleanses away evil, so do stripes purge the inward parts [including the heart] of man. Pro 20:30. God disciplines and scourges every son he accepts, Heb 12:6; he who has suffered in the flesh is finished with sin. So that you should not live the rest of your time in the flesh in the lusts of men, but [live] to the will of God. 1 Pet 4:1-2.]

Keep your servant also from presumptuous sins; do not let them have dominion over me! Then I shall be upright, and I shall be innocent from great transgression.

Then the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart become acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
