Psalms 5:3 Display Chapter and Footnotes   3 You hear my voice in the morning, O LORD; I will direct my prayer to you in the morning, and wait and watch. | Luke 12:37-38 Display Chapter and Footnotes   37 Blessed are those servants whom the lord finds watching when he comes. Truly I say to you, he will gird himself and make them sit down to eat, and he will come and serve them. [Behold, I stand at the door, and knock. If any man hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Rev 3:20] 38 And if he comes in the second watch or the third watch, and finds them so, blessed are those servants. | Matthew 26:36,38,40-41 Display Chapter and Footnotes   36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane and said to the disciples, "Sit here, while I go and pray over there." [Notice, in verse 38 below, pray becomes watch. Watching and waiting is a form of prayer, looking for God's instructions and guidance.] 38 Then he said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, almost to death; stay here and watch with me." [Jesus wanted them to sit and watch inwardly for further instructions from God; to wait and watch is prayer. Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me, finds life; and he shall obtain favor of the LORD. Pro 8:34-35. Watching is part of waiting on God's revelations which can be words spoken or revealings by His light.] 40 And he came to the disciples, and found them asleep, and said to Peter, "What, could you not watch with me one hour? [A mature disciple should be able to wait and watch most of the day: Therefore return to your God; keep mercy and justice and wait on your God continually. Hos 12:6.] 41 Watch and pray that you do not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." [Watching and waiting on God is not easy because it is very easy to fall asleep as you wait in silence, listening and watching.] | Proverbs 8:34-35 Display Chapter and Footnotes   34 Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. [From the Word of the Lord within: "Without our promises the soul is grieved; with them the soul settles down to a vigilant tribute to the Lord." To wait and watch is a tribute to the Lord; a tribute is something that you do to show that you respect and admire someone or something. To show respect and admiration for God by waiting and watching for Him is the beginning of love of God.] 35 For whoever finds me, finds life; and he shall obtain favor of the LORD. | 2 Corinthians 11:27 Display Chapter and Footnotes   27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fasts often, in cold and lack of clothing. | 1 Corinthians 16:13 Display Chapter and Footnotes   13 Watch, stand fast in the faith, conduct yourself like men, be strong. [Be devoted to prayer with watching and thankfulness. Col 4:2] |
