Psalms 7

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

1 O LORD my God, in you I take refuge and put my trust; save and deliver me from all those who persecute me,

2 Lest they tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces while there is none to deliver.

3 O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is iniquity in my hands,

4 If I have repaid evil to him who was at peace with me; or plundered my enemy without cause,

5 Let the enemy pursue my life and take it; yes, let him trample my life upon the earth and lay my honor in the dust. Selah.

6 Arise, O LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the rage of my enemies;1 and awake for me the justice that you have commanded.

7 Let the congregation of the people be gathered around you, and rule over them from on high.

8 The LORD shall judge all people; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me.

9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; for the righteous God tries the hearts and minds.

10 My defense is of God, who saves the upright in heart.

11 God is a righteous judge, a God who is angry with the wicked every day.

12 If the wicked does not turn back and repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent his bow and made it ready.

13 He has also prepared the deadly weapons; He makes his arrows fiery shafts.

14 Behold, the wicked is pregnant with iniquity, he has conceived mischief and given birth to lies.

15 He made a pit and dug it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he made.

16 His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own scalp.

17 I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness, and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

1 save and deliver me from all those who persecute me, lift yourself up against the rage of my enemies. David was king; he was not persecuted by men, whom he could banish or kill in a heartbeat. He is being persecuted by demons, which the Lord allows in order to chasten and scourge any son whom he accepts.
