Psalms 97

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

1 The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad of it.

2 Clouds and darkness are round about Him; righteousness and judgment are the habitation of His throne.

3 A fire goes before Him, and burns up His enemies round about.

4 His lightnings enlightened the world; the earth saw, and trembled.

5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

6 The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see His glory.

7 All those will be ashamed who serve graven images and who boast of their idols; worship Him, all you gods.

8 Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of your judgments, O LORD.

9 For you, LORD, are high above all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.

10 You who love the LORD, hate evil. He preserves the souls of his saints. He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.

11 Light is sown for the righteous and strewn along their pathway,1 and gladness for the upright in heart.

12 Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous [ones]; and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness.

1 Light is sown [like seed] for the righteous and strewn along their pathway. Light is planted in the hearts of the righteous. God is light. God is planted in the hearts of the righteous. With the light of God in a man's heart, the man sees by the light of God, not the light of the sun and moon. The light always shows the man what to do that is noble; a man sees only what God wants him to see, and sees what needs to be done. I WILL KNOW when I am in the Light, walking in the light, when:

I can walk by the light of God, instead of the light of the sun and moon. The light will be so bright, I will be unable to see the world as I now see it, ever again; the world as I have known, and have seen, will have passed away.

When I am in the Light, I will have fellowship with the Father and the Son; if not continually, certainly much of the time.

When I am in the Light, I will have received the light to shine in my heart, and so I will see God, shining in the face of Christ Jesus. 2 Cor 4:6. I will have received a pure heart, so to see God. He will appear a second time bringing to full salvation to those who have been eagerly awaiting him. Heb 9:28. And we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. 1 John 3:2-3 .

While I am not in the Light, I must wait on God as much as I am able, and listen and watch. When I hear a command, I must obey it to grow. When he shows me my weakness in the light, which shines in the darkness of my soul for a moment, then I must regret that weakness, and do everything in my power to avoid falling to that weakness in the future; if I do, I get his powerful help. As I obey these moments of light, and the word heard, I get closer to the day star rising in my heart - purity, union, and the Kingdom.
