Psalms 83

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

 1 Do not keep silent, O God; do not hold your peace, and do not be still, O God.

 2 For, lo, your enemies are in violent agitation; and those who hate you have lifted up their head.

 3 They have created clever schemes against your people, and consulted against your precious hidden ones.

 4 They have said, "Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no longer remembered."

 5 For they have consulted together with one purpose of heart: they are joined against you:

 6 The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

 7 Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;

 8 And Assur also are joined with them; they have helped the children of Lot [the Ammonites and the Moabites]. Selah.

 9 Deal with them as you did to the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison,

 10 Who perished at Endor; they became as dung for the earth.

 11 Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb; yes, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna;

 12 Who said, "Let us take for ourselves all the pastures of God."

 13 O my God, with a whirling wind, make them like stubble within the wind.

 14 Like the fire burns wood, and as the flame sets the mountains on fire;

 15 Thus persecute them with your tempest, and make them afraid with your storm.

 16 Fill their faces with shame, so that they may seek your name, O LORD.

 17 Let them be confounded and troubled forever; yes, let them be put to shame, and perish;

 18 That men may know that you, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, are the most high over all the earth.1

1 That men may know that you, whose name alone is JEHOVAH; The Jehova's Witnesses maintain their superior claim to salvation based on calling God nothing but Jehova. Yet, the next time you find yourself cornered by these unsent-by-God witnesses, walking in their flesh, recruiting for their sect, ask them the following: "When you pray the Lord's Prayer, what are your beginning words?" They will answer: "Our Father, who.." Now ask them, since they state that Jehova is the only name that God is to be called, why do they address him as, Father? The resulting silence speaks volumes about their beliefs.
