Revelation 8

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

 1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.1

 2 And I saw the seven angels who stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.

 3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given to him much incense, so that he might offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar that was before the throne.

 4 And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand.

 5 Then the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire from the altar, and cast it onto the earth; and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.

 6 And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.

 7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth; and a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees, and all green grass was burned up.

 8 Then the second angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood;

 9 And a third of the creatures that were in the sea, and had life, died; and a third of the ships were destroyed.

 10 Then the third angel sounded, and a great star fell from heaven, burning as if it were a lamp, and it fell upon a third of the rivers, and upon the springs of waters.

 11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood [bitterness]. And a third of the waters became wormwood; and many men died from the waters, because they were made bitter.

 12 Then the fourth angel sounded, and a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars; so that a third of them was darkened, and a third of the day did not shine, and the night likewise.

 13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, "Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabitants of the earth because of the other voices of the trumpets of the three angels, which are yet to sound!"

1 There was silence in heaven for about half an hour. Heaven is within your heart. Be silent, oh all flesh before the Lord.” Zech2:13. Be silent in the presence of the Lord GOD. Zeph 1:7. Be still, and know that I am God. Ps 46:10. The LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him. Hab 2:20. Be not rash with your mouth, and let not your heart be hasty to utter a word before God. Ecc 5:2. It is a struggle to still the mind and heart, which men must do to force their way into the kingdom.

From George Fox's writing on Why Silence:

He that has an ear to hear, let him hear: such as know the seven seals, shall know the silence in heaven. And when I saw the seven seals, there was silence for half an hour in heaven; he that can, read this and understand.

This is George Fox's testimony that the seven seals is a personal experience of the crucified, purified follower of Christ.
