Romans 14

 1 Accept a person who is weak in faith, but not to judge over disputable things.

 2 For one believes that he may eat all things; another, who is weak, eats only vegetables.

 3 Let him who eats all things, not despise him who does not eat. Let not him, who does not eat, judge him who does eat; for God has accepted him. [From the Word of the Lord within: "Do not judge each other on food or drink." Let no one judge you on your food or drink, Col 2:16; what one eats and drinks is a matter of individual conscience. Since the conscience is subject to persuasion by the Spirit, everyone will have the same view on permissible food and drink when their faith has been perfected.]

 4 Who are you to judge another man's household servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Yes, he will be helped to stand. For God is able to make him stand.

 5 One man esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

 6 He who observes a day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe a day, does so to the Lord. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, does so to the Lord, and gives God thanks.

 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no man dies to himself.

 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore if we live or die, we are the Lord's.

 9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

 10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you value your brother as nothing? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

 11 For it is written, As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.

 12 So then everyone of us will give an account of himself to God.

 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore; but rather resolve this, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

 14 I know, and am convinced by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean in itself; but whoever thinks anything is unclean, to him it is unclean.

 15 But if your brother is grieved because of your food, you do not walk in love. Do not destroy him with your food, for whom Christ died.

 16 Do not let what you consider good be spoken of as evil.

 17 For the kingdom of God is not in food and drink; but in righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.1 [In his sermon early Quaker Stephen Crisp, who dwelled in the kingdom, testified that in one day under the government of Christ, (in the kingdom), one has more joy, pleasure, and delight than a thousand days outside it.]

 18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.

 19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and the things with which we may edify one another.

 20 Do not destroy the work of God over food. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil to eat [anything] if it offends another man. [In the company of those who believe eating meat is evil, we eat vegetarian, (but this would not apply to those who are only vegetarians because think a vegetarian diet is healthier). In the company of those who think alcohol is evil, we abstain from alcoholic beverages.]

 21 It is good neither to eat meat, nor to drink wine, nor anything by which your brother stumbles, or is offended, or is made weak.

 22 Do you have faith? Keep it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself for the thing he chooses to do.2 [You condemn yourself if you attempt to demonstrate the strength of your faith by eating meat in the company of brother who is vegetarian by conscience, or by your drinking alcoholic beverages in the company of a brother who thinks alcohol is a sin.]

 23 And he who doubts about foods, is condemned if he eats them, because he does not eat in faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin. [From the Word of the Lord within: "What is perceived as sin, is sin."]

Colossians 2:16-17

 16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you with respect to food or drink, or in the matter of a feast, new moon, or Sabbath days;4 [There are sects in Christendom that claim to be "true believers" by celebrating certain Jewish feasts. The same is true regarding the Jewish seventh-day Sabbath. "Do not let anyone judge you" means to not accept their judgment or criticism.]

 17 Which are only shadows of things that were to come; but the substance [reality] is Christ. [The law was a shadow, (a faint, outline, resemblance), of the reality and substance of Christ, whose coming made obsolete the Law's ordinances, ceremonies, sacrifices, days, feasts, tithing, sabbaths, washings, rituals, etc.; and ended all as a means to righteousness. With the ending of the Mosaic Law, the life of the law became within, the inner law that is on everyone's heart, by which all men will be judged. The moral core of the Mosaic Law is part of the inner law. When that inner law is completely observed by you, (fulfilled), you die to the law through the law; and you then live by faith, hearing and obeying the continuous direction from God in what to do and what to say. Then, it is no longer you that lives, but Christ who lives and rules within you; the fullness of Christ, the substance, has come in you; having fulfilled the law, having been circumcised in heart, and having fully entered the rest. The Law is fulfilled and the righteousness of the Pharisee is exceeded for the righteousness of a man who walks by faith greatly exceeds the righteousness of any man that walked in full compliance with the Law that could only restrict flesh.]
