|Hebrews 12:6-8 |
6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and scourges every son whom he accepts."4 [The pain of a wound cleanses away evil, so do stripes purge the inward parts [including the heart] of man, Pro 20:30; he who has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin. So that you should not live the rest of your time in the flesh in the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 1 Pet 4:1-2.]
7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom the father does not chasten?
8 But if you are without chastisement [correcting rebuke and discipline], of which all must share, then you are illegitimate,5 and not sons.
5 if you are without chastisement [correcting rebuke and discipline], of which all must share, then you are illegitimate, and not sons. If you have not been disciplined by God, you are illegitimate, in the pretense of being a make-believe Christian. If you have been disciplined, you know you are on the cross, you know you are in tribulation, and you know your salvation is assured. The rod and the staff of the Lord is comfort; pain is comfort — to know you are on the path, to know beneficial changes in you are shortly coming. The Lord said: As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent. Rev 3:19. Whom does the Lord love? Those who obey him: If a man loves me, he will keep my words; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him [in his heart]. John 14:23. From the Word of the Lord within: "You are a son when Jesus appears in your heart to guide you."
