John 14:16-18 Display Chapter and Footnotes ¹⁶ I will ask the Father, and he will give you another comforter [helper], so that he may remain with you forever² — ¹⁷ [Who is] the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him, nor knows him. But you know him because he dwells with you [now], and shall be in you [soon]. [Regarding, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot receive: The light shines in the darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:5. For everyone who does evil deeds (sins) hates the light (so hates Christ, who is the light) and does not come to the light for fear his deeds will be exposed and reproved. John 3:20.] ¹⁸ I will not leave you comfortless like orphans; I will come to you.
