|Luke 14:11,18:9-13,14 |
11 For whoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted."
9 Then he spoke this parable to those who trusted in themselves and were sure that they were righteous and disdained others:
10 "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus within himself, 'God, I thank you, that I am not like other men: robbers, swindlers, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
12 I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I possess.'
13 But the tax collector, standing at a distance, would not so much as lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God be merciful to me a sinner.'
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."2
