|Malachi 4:5-61 |
5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD.
6 And he will turn the hearts of the fathers together with the children [to me], and the hearts of the children together with their fathers [to me], or else I will come and strike the earth with destruction."1
1 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers together with the children [to me], and the hearts of the children together with their fathers [to me], or else I will come and strike the earth with destruction.
Because the Day of the Lord is not understood by the translators to be a personal experience, their translation is completely wrong, typically being, He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with destruction. But the second coming and the day of the Lord are one in the same personal experience, which occurs for all men in every generation. For those who are crucified to spiritually die on the inward cross of self-denial, the second coming occurs as the Lord appears after the baptism of fire has burned all the remaining sin in them. Their body dies in this baptism of fire and death, but the believer is raised (resurrected) with Christ and translated into the kingdom of God. Though raised with Christ to live in the heavens, they still walk the earth as a new creature together, (in union) with the Lord. For those who physically die without having been purified on the inward cross and who are still slaves to sin, the appearance of the Lord when they physically die is a terror for they will suddenly see how hopelessly evil they are.
As Jesus said in Matthew 17:10-13, Elijah came again as John the Baptist to prepare the people of Israel for the coming of the Lord, but John was not recognized.
Before every man in every generation experiences the Day of the Lord, (and the coming of the Lord), every man first has his visitation from the Spirit of God, (just as John the Baptist was identical to the spirit of Elijah, so is the Holy Spirit identical to the spirit of Elijah); "and when he comes, he will prove the world wrong [reprove all men] concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment." John 16:8-11. The Holy Spirit convicts and convinces people of their sins, shows them the righteousness of Christ that each must then attain, and judges them.
For those who do not turn away from sin and do not turn instead to the righteousness of God, God strikes the earth in each man with destruction. There is a small seed of the Kingdom in each man, a kingdom that can grow to a new heaven and new earth for each man, providing that man feeds and waters that seed to grow to maturity. If a man does not seek the kingdom as his highest priority in life and endure to the end of his selfish life, to be born again and inherit that kingdom; then that seed, that earth in him, is destroyed. George Fox also has a detailed writing, which describes the mirror of the earth in every man's heart, (see A Word From the Lord, to All the World).
For those who do turn away from sin and do turn instead to the righteousness of God (by crucifying their selfish, evil spirit on the inward cross of self-denial), the world within them is also destroyed, but they inherit a new heaven and new earth, Rev 21:1, in which the world of tongues and nations is no more and righteousness dwells throughout.
From the Word of the Lord within:
- "Your heart is a mirror of the world." (which is apparently a three-dimensional image or duplication of the world.)
- "The world in every man is destroyed by the Lord." (which is what the Book of Revelation is about)
- "I am He who destroys the world."
- "I am He who powers the earth."
- "From this one earth shall many earths come forth."
- "There is a promise of more worlds to come."
- "Jesus is a mighty name to be declared in all the worlds to come.
- "Guard and protect his name."
- "Follow me and I will lead you to a new land."
- "You will explore a new land, a place where no one else has ever been."
- "The world will be regenerated as it was in the beginning, world without end. God's Spirit powers the earth."
- "There will be a mist released, which shall cover the whole earth."
